Inspired from the recipe presented by Kath Hester on Nutrition Studies.org https://nutritionstudies.org/recipes/appetizer/air-fryer-bow-tie-pasta-chips/

This is an awesome snack for children to pack in their school lunches and adults alike. The ingredients are so simple and they are reminiscent of the fish shaped cheese flavoured crackers that are so common. I will adapt the recipe to accommodate larger batches. Whenever I make these, my children end up snapping them up before I can pack them for their lunches or save them for later.

Prep time: 30 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups uncooked whole-grain bow tie pasta
  • 1 Tbsp aquafaba or water used to boil the pasta
  • 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  1. Cook the bowtie pasta /farafelle for half the time called for on the package.
  2. Reserve some of the pasta liquid before draining.
  3. When the pasta is drained, mix in the aquafaba or pasta water, nutritional yeast, Italian style seasoning and salt.
  4. Spread a layer of the bowtie pasta in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Cook at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for about 4-5 minutes, shake or use a wooden spoon to toss and cook for another 2-4 minutes more until desired texture.

Cooking Tips

  1. Found Barilla Brand Bow Tie Pasta at the local No Frills grocery store with a high fibre content similar to the Catelli Smart Brand at a lower price.
  2. For a gluten-free option, use brown rice pasta.
  3. From experience the bow-tie chips will get crispier as they cool.
