Air Popped Popcorn is such a fun and healthy snack that pairs great with any movie night and or party. The are many variations out there that can be as simple or complex as your imagination can conjure. Here are a few of the staples that we keep coming back to. There is also a wide variety of different corn popping kernels available at your local grocery or bulk foods store. Listed here is a rough guideline. In general we make several servings of the seasoning mixture to have on hand for whenever the opportunity for popcorn strikes.
1/2 cup unpopped popcorn kernels
Yields 4 servings or 14-15 cups of popcorn.
- Microwave popcorn: Using 1/2 cup of the popcorn pour inside a large brown lunch bag and fold over the top several times to keep the popcorn from bursting all over the microwave. Using the high setting, microwave for around 2 minutes or until the popping is reduced. Do this with the remaining popcorn until you have your desired amount. These are estimates and every microwave and corn kernels vary with cooking times.
- Hot air popcorn poppers can be found relatively easily with a quick search. Once you have a hot air popper, all you’ll need is to get kernels for popping without any oil or added fats. Make sure to follow the indicated manufacturer’s instructions and each popper and kernels cooking time will be different.
- Flavouring: Season the popcorn while the popcorn is till hot. This will help the ingredients stick to the surface. Very fine sea salt will produce the best results.
- What usually helps the seasoning stick to the popcorn is some Bragg’s Liquid Aminos or simple apple cider vinegar from the grocery store. Put the apple cider vinegar or liquid aminos in a spray bottle and mist finely mist the popcorn. Be careful to go lightly with the spray as an abundance will cause the popcorn to become mushy.

- 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
