Adonis Chocolate Cake

Adonis Chocolate Birthday Cake

We discovered this chocolate cake early on in our journey and has been adapted in so many ways to fit our needs. It is such a blissful, moist, chocolatey, rich and creamy cake when adding Adonis frosting on top. Everybody has taken a turn making and decorating these cakes for various special occasions or whenever the sudden need for eating cake arises.

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 30 minutes

Makes about a 9 x 9 inch cake.

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 6 tablespoons unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup cold water

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 355 degrees Fahrenheit. Set out a 9 x 9-inch non stick equivalent cake pan. We’ve used round pans instead of rectangular.

2. Pour the mixture into the baking pan and bake for 30 minutes.

3. Make the Adonis Frosting while the cake is baking.

4. Check on the baking and use a toothpick to poke the cake. When it comes out clean, remove the cake from the oven and set aside to cool. When the cake has cooled sufficiently, coat with Adonis Frosting.

The beauty with this cake is finding alternative and create ways to transform this cake into cupcakes or additional layers. It is easy to incorporate others to help decorate the cakes for special occasions for extra fun and as a family activity. The local grocery store has sprinkles and tiny plant based decorations to add to the cake for festive occasions.
