Grow Your Own Fresh Micro Greens

I remember growing up eating alfalfa sprouts in salad and stuffed inside pitas. It’s taken for granted that these are usually only available at select health food stores. Even Whole Foods, or at least the ones in the areas I have visited didn’t have them due to safety or health food and safety guidelines reasons. Either way, I found an easy way to grow your own if you buy your seeds from a local health foods store like Ambrosia Fine foods, or if you want to buy them directly from Mumm’s Sprout. The cheapest way to get in bulk online is to buy it from Amazon here. Like I said, I purchased mine from Ambrosia Fine Foods locally and a really good price, so if you look around you could probably find them. Some plants and seed stores may have them as well, but they can be a lot more expensive. I initially bought a kit from Walmart that had two tops, and two packs of seeds with a jar I believe. I didn’t need the jar, but it was a good price for both tops and some seeds which I didn’t already have.

Purchased from Amazon for two lids that fit on mason jars

When I went back to the store to look for them, I couldn’t find the original kit. Instead they had one lid, some seeds and a jar which I didn’t need again. I ended up going to Amazon to purchase two more lids by Masontops here.

Simple simple, add two tablespoons of alfalfa seeds to the 1 Litre or 1 quart mason jar, fasten the bean screen. Fill with cool water, swirl around and drain. Add cool water again to the jar to cover the seeds and soak for 4 to 8 hours. After 4 to 8 hours, drain the water and prop it upside down at angle. I usually rest mine agains the wall.
